“Unpublish this document” cause access denied

SP2013

Hello everyone,

Today I’ll talk about a SharePoint operation a little unknown.

It can happen to people wanting to make a “unpublished” on a document to have the error message “Sorry, this site hasn’t been shared with you” even if they are the authors of the document.

This happens if you set up the “content approval” on your list. Indeed, once the document is approved, you cannot “unpublish” this version of the document.

If you have versioning enabled and you want to revert to a previous version, follow this process:

  • In the Document menu, click “…” and then “Version history”
  •  Select the previous version and click on “restore”.
  •  Re-perform the validation process.

When you think it is normal not to be able to edit a document that has been approved. However having the “Unpublish” button while you cannot do it is confusing.

Hope this helps.

Christopher

SharePoint 2013 SP1 + Corrective

SP2013

Hello everyone,

Today I’ll talk about Service Pack 1 for SharePoint 2013. More precisely about the patch that followed.

After installing Service Pack 1 for SharePoint 2013 Foundation, the search center and the “Search Web Part” have some problems. Those problems were solved with the “March 2014 Public Update” available here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2760625 .

For those who are interested and because I had not yet mentioned them, here are the links to download the service pack for the 2013 “suite”:

SharePoint Foundation 2013 SP1: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2817439

SharePoint Server 2013 SP1: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2817429

Project Server 2013 SP1: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2817434

If you do not know Stefan Goßner, I urge you to go visit his blog regularly, my information about updates for SharePoint mainly come from there: http://blogs.technet.com/b/stefan_gossner/

Hope this helps.

Selected Cells are read-only

SP2007-2010

Hello everyone,

Today I’ll talk about a problem that may occur when you edit a list in « DataSheet View».

It may occurs that you got the error message “The selected cells are read-only.” In fact, this message appears if you try to edit a column of type “Multiple lines of text” with the type “Enhanced rich text” (selected by default).

In fact, if you specify the type “enhanced” for multiline field you cannot modify it in “DataSheet View”!

Hope this helps

Christopher.
